Our Story

We are Shar (on the left) and Drea (on the right) - founder (& founder's daughter) of TreeHouse Hippie. We co-created this business out of pure love and necessity — not trend, not fad, and not imitation. 

I (Drea) am a surviving adult living with Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is an autoimmune disease caused by a gene mutation that happens in the womb. CF causes life-threatening complications in the respiratory and digestive systems of the body, preventing them from funtioning normally. That being said, CF patients rely heavily on the use of pharmaceutical medications, daily physical therapy, herbal and holistic remedies (wherever possible), and taking precaution in order to minimize hospitalizations and oxygen dependence.

As anyone could imagine, spending your life dependent on drugs comes with tons of side effects on the body; Side-effects that started to show up on my skin and in my hair. After a long battle of exploring store-brand body care, I kept hitting a wall.

I (Shar) was faced with the reality of watching my daughter suffer, and did the only thing I knew to do, which was pray. I prayed and asked God for healing for my daughter, for guidance, and for wisdom so that I would know how to help her. That prayer became the foundation of our future business as God led me into creating my own bodycare products.

I developed my soaps, oils, and butters slowly and thoughtfully. Each formula was used and tested daily. I refined and adjusted them as needed, and solidified my formulas only after they proved gentle, effective, and restorative. As my daughter began to heal and see improvements, my passion for natural ingredients and holistic remedies grew. Her transformation led to others inquiring about what she uses on her skin... and thus TreeHouse Hippie was born.

We started off simple, mainly focusing on Hair & Skin Care. As time passed, our brand evolved to include so much more. Body Care formulations that once served a household in crisis matured into teaching others how to live intentionally and be resilient. 

We are now a brand of awareness; a brand that reminds you to make room for yourself; a brand the encourages you to live, rather than simply existing; a brand of handmade luxury and self-investment. 

Navigating life as a patient and the parent of a child with an autoimmune disease has given us so many powerful perspectives on reality. So if we leave you with anything, please remember that: 

(1) Time is the most precious resource you own. Spend it trying new things, exploring new territories, and laughing with the people you love. 

(2) Prioritize your well-being over everything else! Investing in the quality of things that go onto or into your body is investing in yourself - Don’t cheat yourself!

(3) Live your life with purpose, on purpose! You never know who's watching you, so share your testimony with others. Use your life to leave the world better than you found it, even in the smaller ways.
